Attendance and Registration
Q: Do I need to be a physics major?
A: No, but you must be interested in physics. Otherwise the conference may not benefit you.
Q: How much does the conference cost?
A: There is a $25 registration fee that may be reimbursed. There are also travel expenses. We encourage you to contact your department chair about travel costs. We will also set up contacts for carpooling. If your local department is unable to cover travel and you cannot find carpooling group, travel grants may be available. Please contact cuwip[at]physics.gatech.edu if you have any questions. Food and board are taken care of by us.
Q: I attended a previous CUWiP. Can I apply again?
A: Yes, but preference will go to those who have not attended previously. We will try to accommodate as many students as we can.
Q: What will increase my chances of being accepted to the conference?
A: First, make sure you submit your application by the deadline. Second, make sure you put some thought into why you want to attend and what you want to get out of the conference. Make sure you answer all questions on the application fully and honestly. Offering to present a talk or a poster will not affect your chances of being selected to attend.
Q: Can I attend the Georgia Tech CUWiP even though it is not my closest location/I would like to apply to grad school at Georgia Tech so can I attend to visit the school?
A: Because of the high demand of students and travel costs of those who are not in our region, we will only be able to accept students that are in the region. This conference is not intended to be a graduate school visit.
Q: Is this only for women?
A: No! While the focus of the conference is women in physics, we encourage all genders to apply if they are interested. It is important to have all genders included in the conversations of gender in physics.
Travel and Hotel
Q: I am driving to campus. Where do I park? How much does it cost?
A: You will not need to reserve or pay for your hotel room, we will be taking care of that. For more information, please see our travel information.
Q: What do I bring to the conference?
A: Make sure to bring business casual clothing (slacks, button down, blouse, skirt, dress, flats, etc). Please make sure to brings layers due to Atlanta’s fickle weather. You may want to bring an umbrella.
If you are giving a poster, please make sure to print it out before coming to Atlanta. If you are giving a talk, you may want to bring it on a flashdrive and/or your computer.
Q: How do I get from the hotel to the Georgia Tech campus?
A: We will be providing a shuttle service Saturday morning and evening, and Sunday morning from the hotels to the Georgia Tech campus.
Q: How do I get to and from the airport?
A: Please see our travel information.
Student Presentations
Q: Can I present a poster/can I present a talk/can I switch type of presentations/etc.

Q: How and when do I get reimbursed?
A: TBD
Q: Can I connect with those going to the conference before arriving in Atlanta?

Health
Q: I have a disability/special needs/food allergies. What should I do?
A: Please make sure to contact us at cuwip[at]physics.gatech.edu so we can accommodate you as best as we can. There is a place on the registration form for you to include any special accommodation you may need, but if you have not included it, please let us know as soon as possible.
